How to Catechumen a Mixed Number to a Decimal
Follow these 2 steps to convert a mixed number to a decimal:
- Convert the fraction to a decimal: Divide the numerator by the denominator
- Add this decimal number to the whole number part of the mixed number
A mixed number is a whole number plus a fraction. To notice the decimal form of a fraction but separate the numerator past the denominator using a calculator or long sectionalisation. Then add together the decimal number to the whole number.
Example: Convert the mixed number 7 1/4 to a decimal
- Catechumen the fraction to a decimal: Carve up 1 by 4
1 ÷ 4 = 0.25 - Add together 0.25 to the whole number seven:
7 + 0.25 = seven.25
Note that this solution works even if the fraction part of the mixed number is an improper fraction.
Case: Convert the mixed number 3 9/5 to a decimal
- Convert the fraction to a decimal: Divide 9 by 5
9 ÷ 5 = 1.8 - Add i.8 to the whole number 3:
3 + i.eight = iv.8
Secondary Method: Catechumen a Mixed Number to a Decimal by Fraction Addition
Alternatively yous can convert a mixed number to a decimal by first converting the mixed number to two fractions, adding them and simplifying to a decimal.
Instance: Convert the mixed number 5 2/3 to a decimal
- 5 2/iii = 5/1 + 2/3
- 5 2/iii = (5/1 * 3/3) + ii/3
- five 2/3 = xv/3 + 2/iii
- five 2/3 = 17/iii
- 5 2/3 = v.667
A mixed number such as 7 1/four can exist converted to a decimal. It is implied that 7 one/4 is really 7 + 1/4 and that 7 = 7/1, therefore we are offset calculation the fraction vii/one + 1/iv. Since iv is the denominator in the original fraction function we will use it as our common denominator. 7/one * 4/4 = 28/4. And so, 28/4 + 1/4 = 29/4. 29/4 = 29 ? 4 = 7.25.
